All leather is a product of cruelty, torture, and death. The manufacturing of leather goods has become inhumane. Animals are being tortured and dreadfully slaughtered for the sake of style and looks. Buying leather directly contributes to the horrors of intensive factory farming. Millions of animals die for the sake of fashion every year.

Problem Statement

There Is No Such Thing As Humane Leather

Most animals whose skin is used for leather suffer extreme torture in crowding, deprivation, castration, tail docking, and dehorning all without anesthesia or any type of pain killers.

Workers break cows’ tails and rub chili peppers or tobacco in their eyes to keep them up and continue walking after they collapse of exhaustion.

By the time cows make it to the slaughterhouse many need to be dragged inside unable to stand any longer. Once inside their throats are slit. If they're lucky they’ll be dead before the workers begin to butcher their legs off.

Ostriches are packed into vehicles where they’re abused and beaten en route to the slaughterhouse. They are constrained and electrocuted before their throats are slit and their feathers are ripped from their lifeless bodies.

Leather can be acquired from many different animals although most of us think of cattle as the main recourse but pig, sheep, and goat are also widely used along with ostrigies, kangaroos, and alligators.

The toxicities in the water has caused ongoing health problems for the surrounding locals. Toxic chemicals have led to heavily disabled children being born, skin diseases, and erosion.

Leather In Our World

India

of leather water waste is tainted with toxic chemicals and dumped into lakes and rivers causing health problem within the communities.

In India it is illegal to kill healthy cattle so get around this workers willfully torture the animals to declare them unfit for slaughter.

China

An estimated 2 million dogs and cats

are slaughtered and skinned every year.

The leather coming from China is usually incorrectly labeled meaning unsuspected consumers are mistaking wearing dog skin instead of cow meaning you can never really guarantee what animals flesh you are wearing.

Companies in China turn dog skin into women's fashion gloves, wallets, belts, shoes, and other accessories.
